In the Sacred Heart University games against Mercyhurst University last Friday and Saturday, graduate transfer Rourke Russell was the top defenseman in the series.

Russell tallied four assists alongside seven blocks to earn Atlantic Hockey Defensive Player of the Week honors.

It’s the first weekly honor for the Long Beach, Calif., native after coming over from Miami University.

Russell scored his first points as a Pioneer in Friday’s matchup recording two assists while also tallying four blocks. In Saturday’s game, he recorded two more assists with three blocks in the Pioneers 3-3 draw with the Lakers.

Growing up, Russell spent a season with the Arizona Bobcats.
