Arizona products Toenjes, Ebeyer, Tamburo garner weekly USPHL honors
The USPHL has announced its latest players of the week, with three standouts from Arizona being honored.
Carolina Jr. Hurricanes defenseman Keaton Toenjes is the Southeast Premier Division Defenseman of the Week, while Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights goalie Chase Ebeyer is the Atlantic Elite Division Goaltender of the Week and Islanders Hockey Club netminder Tagger Tamburo is the New England Elite Division Goaltender of the Week.
Toenjes, an ‘03 from Gilbert, put together a powerful performance with seven assists over four games, during which Carolina went 2-2. He also led the Jr. Canes with 1.33 blocks per game at the USPHL Florida College Showcase. With his seven points, he surpassed his points total of 2022-23 by standing with 30 points through 27 games.
Back home, Toenjes played for the Arizona Bobcats and Corona del Sol High School.
Ebeyer, a 2004-born Scottsdale native, stopped 37 of 38 shots against the previous division leaders, the PAL Jr. Islanders on Dec. 14, which gave him a .974 save percentage for the evening and boosted an already impressive season save percentage to .924 – and lifted his two-year career mark to .917.
Entering 2024, Ebeyer has won six of his last seven starts going back to Oct. 29.
In Arizona, Ebeyer played for the DYHA Jr. Sun Devils and Pinnacle High School.
Tamburo, an ‘04 out of Phoenix, is a former creasemate of Ebeyer while they were both with the Jr. Sun Devils, and now they get to share Goaltender of the Week honors for the North Region.
Tamburo stopped 55 of 58 shots for a .948 save percentage in two games, both wins for the IHC against the Boston Jr. Bruins and Springfield Pics. He now has a 10-3-2-0 record with a .929 save percentage for his career.
In addition to DYHA, Tamburo also played for the Bobcats, Jr. Coyotes and Desert Vista High School.
