Arizona products Toenjes, Tamburo claim weekly USPHL honors

The USPHL has announced its weekly player awards, with two Arizona products being honored.

Carolina Jr. Hurricanes blueliner Keaton Toenjes is the Southeast Premier Division Defenseman of the Week, while Islanders Hockey Club goalie Tagger Tamburo is the New England Elite Division Goaltender of the Week.

Toenjes, an ‘03 from Gilbert, helped the Jr. Canes sweep the Hampton Roads Whalers and earn their ninth and 10th straight wins.

Carolina now ranks fourth in Premier points.

Toenjes registered three assists, was plus-3, blocked two shots, and his 21:59 in ice time was second on the team.

Toenjes improved to 22 points in 20 games, and is just two points off of matching his 2022-23 point total.

Back home, Toenjes skated for the Arizona Bobcats and Corona del Sol High School.

Tamburo, a 2004-born Phoenix native, stopped 51 of 52 shots when the Islanders took wins against the Northern Cyclones and Springfield Pics, Nov. 9-10, with a 21-save shutout against the Cyclones on Nov. 9.

He has three straight wins right now and has an 8-2-1-0 record with a 1.82 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage.

In Arizona, Tamburo played for the Jr. Coyotes, Bobcats, DYHA, and Desert Vista High School.
