Bobcats alum, Scottsdale product Matthews tabbed NHL’s First Star after nine points over three games with Toronto
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews has been named the NHL’s First Star for the week ending October 11, 2026.
Matthews led the NHL with three goals and six assists for nine points in three contests, bookended by a pair of four-point performances, to power the Maple Leafs to five out of a possible six standings points.
He registered a goal and three assists, capped by his 15th career overtime goal (the second-most in franchise history), as Toronto rallied from a 3-0 deficit for a 5-4 win against the Nashville Predators on October 6.
Matthews then collected one assist in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on October 8.
The Scottsdale native finished the week with two goals and two assists, his 19th career four-point game, in a 6-3 triumph over the Colorado Avalanche on October 10.
The 29-year-old Matthews, a former Arizona Bobcats standout during youth hockey, ranks seventh in the league with four goals and six assists for 10 points through six total outings this season.
The Maple Leafs captain owns a 432-358-790 line in 695 career NHL appearances, all with Toronto, the most goals and ninth-most points in the league since being selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft.
