Chandler native, AHU, DYHA alum Blessing garners weekly Atlantic Hockey college hockey award
Air Force senior Guy Blessing has been named the Atlantic Hockey America Goalie of the Week after he led the Falcons to a sweep of Canisius, Nov. 8 and Nov. 10.
Over the two games, Blessing stopped 48 of 49 shots for a goals-against average of 0.50 and a save percentage of .980.
In the first game, the Chandler native stopped all 21 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season and fourth of his career. Ten of his 21 saves came in the third period with four of them coming in the extra-attacker situation.
In the second game, Blessing stopped 27 of 28 shots with the only goal being a power-play redirect in the second period. On Austin Schwartz’s game-winning goal with 54 seconds left in the third period, Blessing earned his first assist of the season and second of his career.
The award is Blessing’s second of the season and fifth of his career (one as a sophomore, two as a junior and two this season).
In four conference games this season, Blessing has stopped 96 of 101 shots for a 1.26 GAA and a .950 save percentage as the Falcons are 3-1-0 in league play.
In his youth hockey days, Blessing played for VOSHA, DYHA, CAHA, AHU and in AHSHA for Hamilton High School, spending the most time with the Jr. Sun Devils and Knights.
