Pair of Arizona connections pick up USPHL monthly awards for January
The United States Premier Hockey League announced its Premier Division Players of the Month for the West Region this week and two players from the Pacific Division have Arizona ties.
Las Vegas Thunderbirds blueliner Steven Avalone, a 2000-born Las Vegas native, won monthly honors at his position.
Avalone picked up five goals and nine points in eight games with the Thunderbirds. The Arizona Bobcats alum collected a goal and assist against Fresno on Jan. 13 and added a goal and three points against the Avalanche on Jan. 22.
Anthony Bonaldi, goalie for the Thunderbirds and a Bobcats and Jr. Coyotes graduate, also garnered recognition for his play last month for his hometown team.
Bonaldi, a 2001 birth year, patrolled the crease three times for the T-Birds and won all three contests, allowing 12 goals on 142 shots for a save percentage of .915. He faced 40-plus shots in all three games and hit the 50-shot mark against the Monsters Jan. 11, stopping 45 to backstop an 8-5 win for the Thunderbirds in his first game back from Christmas break.
