The NAHL South Division Star of the Week is Odessa Jackalopes goaltender Ben Vatis.

A Phoenix native, Vatis showcased back-to-back dominating performances in the blue paint over the weekend.

“Ben is off to a great start,” said Jackalopes head coach Brian Sherry. “His work ethic and leadership have played a major role in our team’s early success.”

Starting on Thursday night, the ‘06 netminder played a critical role in keeping the Jackalopes tight in the contest with the El Paso Rhinos, turning aside 35 shots, helping to lift his team to a 4-2 win on home ice.

Moving into Saturday night, Vatis secured the series win for the Jackalopes, recording a 22-save performance.

Back home, Vatis starred for the Jr. Coyotes
