Scottsdale product, Jr. Coyotes graduate Savage takes home weekly honors from NCHC
Miami University freshman forward Red Savage has been named the NCHC Rookie of the Week.
Savage contributed three points in three games for Miami last weekend.
The Detroit Red Wings prospect opened the week with two goals on Tuesday against Mercyhurst University, scoring the first two goals of the game to put MU up 2-0. It was his first collegiate multi-goal game and earned him Second Star of the Game. On Saturday, Savage handed out a primary assist on a power-play goal to put Miami up 3-2 in an eventual 4-3 defeat to Colorado College.
On the week, Savage tallied two goals, an assist and fired seven shots on goal, including four against the Lakers. He also blocked two shots during the week and won 25 faceoffs over the three games.
For the season, the Scottsdale native now has three goals and seven assists for 10 points in 19 games, ranking fifth on the team in scoring.
This is his third NCHC Rookie of the Week honor this season, tops among NCHC freshmen.
During his youth hockey days, Savage starred for the Jr. Coyotes.
