Jr. Coyotes grad, Scottsdale native Green captures weekly NAHL award
The NAHL has announced that the Midwest Division Star of the Week is Fairbanks Ice Dogs forward Ben Green.
A 16-year-old from Scottsdale, Green put on an offensively dominant performance over the weekend for the Ice Dogs. The first-year Ice Dogs showed up on the scoresheet twice Friday night with two assists in a 4-1 win over the Wisconsin Windigo.
Saturday, Green tallied a hat trick with two assists for a five-point game as Fairbanks took a 9-2 victory over Wisconsin.
“As one of the youngest players in the league, it’s great to see Ben recognized as Midwest Division Star of the Week,” Fairbanks head coach Dakota Bell said. “His performance this past weekend was a direct reflection of the tremendous two weeks of practice he put together since our last game. He played a mature, 200-foot brand of hockey, consistently moved his feet, and competed hard in all areas of the ice. When he plays that way, his skill takes over as he is a natural goal scorer and he’s a lot of fun to watch.
“Ben has an extremely bright future in the game, and we’re excited to be a part of his development. He’s a young player who is only going to continue to improve as he gains experience, and he’ll be an important piece of our team throughout the season.”
Back home, Green skated for the Jr. Coyotes.
