FYHA launching 18U tournament team; Northstars’ 16U Tier II team hoping to be part of Guinness history

The Flagstaff Jr. Jacks 18U team has been put on hold temporarily.

However, FYHA is still anticipating an 18U tournament team that will hold a one-day tryout in September. The team’s head coach will be Glen Austin and will compete in 3-4 tournaments and possibly some at-large games.

The Northstars’ 16U Tier II team will be heading to Detroit in December to participate in a world-record event, “The Guinness Holiday Invitational.” This unprecedented event will feature as many as 1,000 teams in both boys and girls divisions estimated to number more than 18,000 players from 10 countries playing on more than 75 sheets of ice throughout the state.

Guinness World Records has officially recognized the tournament in its attempt to top the current tournament record, which was set in 2007 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. That tournament featured 664 teams comprised of 10,992 players competing in 957 games on 42 sheets of ice.

On a final note, as FYHA looks forward to the start of the 2018-19 season, the club encourages that we should all be “Humboldt Strong” as we remember the players, coaches and families of the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team, keeping them in our thoughts and prayers during our travels throughout this season.

Safe travels to all!
