Jr. Coyotes alum, Scottsdale product Savage garners monthly accolades from NCHC
Miami University freshman forward Red Savage has been named the NCHC Co-Rookie of the Month for January.
Savage, a native of Scottsdale, racked up five goals and three assists in nine January games.
He posted his first multi-goal game on Jan. 4 vs. Mercyhurst and matched that output on Jan. 28 vs. then-No. 5 Denver. He also helped Miami to a shootout win in a Jan. 15 tie at then-No. 7 Minnesota Duluth, tallying the only goal in the shootout.
Savage, a draft pick of the Detroit Red Wings who was also recently part of the United States’ World Junior team, is a Business Economics major in the Farmer School of Business.
He has won NCHC Rookie of the Week four times this year (for the weeks of Oct. 18-24, Nov. 22-28, Jan. 3-9 and Jan. 24-30), and has the most Rookie of the Week awards of any freshman in the conference so far this season.
Back home, Savage developed his game with the Jr. Coyotes.
