Jr. Coyotes product, Scottsdale native Doan grabs weekly honor from USHL

 

Chicago Steel forward Josh Doan has been named the USHL Forward of the Week for the first time in his USHL career.

The Scottsdale native registered nine points (four goals, five assists) over three games against the Team USA Under-17 Team and the Youngstown Phantoms on Jan. 8-10.

“It is great to see what we’ve long known about Josh validated by the league with this weekly honor,” said Steel GM Ryan Hardy. “He’s an incredibly versatile player who has grown substantially in the last two seasons but is still just scratching the surface of his potential. His leadership, smarts and competitive nature are essential components to the success of our team on a nightly basis they just happened to manifest themselves on the score sheet a bit more this past weekend.”

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound skater kicked off his high-scoring weekend with a goal and three helpers in a 7-5 loss against Team USA on Jan. 8 and added another four-point effort the following night.

Doan registered his first hat trick in the USHL, scoring three goals in a span of just over 19 minutes on Jan. 9 in an 11-2 victory against Team USA. He added a helper for his second straight four-point effort.

The Arizona State University commit and Jr. Coyotes grad finished his strong weekend with an assist in a 4-2 win over the Phantoms on Jan. 10.

Adding four markers and five assists to his current total, Doan surpassed his season total of 14 points (five goals, nine assists) over 45 games played in the 2019-20 season. He now has 19 points (nine goals, 10 assists) in 18 games played this year, ranking No. 10 on the USHL scoring list to this point.
